'i am a little church' wins Boston Metro Opera International Composer Competition!
January 6, 2011 - I just received word that 'i am a little church' is a winner of the 2012 Boston Metro Opera International Composer Competition in the Choral Music Category, and will be performed as part of the Contemporary Americana Festival sponsored by BMO in May of this year! Here's a little info about BMO and the Festival:
"Boston Metro Opera was founded in 2008, and already, it has established a reputation for being "...a robust new company with a penchant for trendsetting productions" and New England's premier 'new opera' opera company. Since 2009, Boston Metro has produced fifty-five new works including twelve world premieres, eight East Coast premieres, twenty-five New England premieres, and three Boston premieres. As part of its new music initiative, Boston Metro Opera sponsors an annual festival devoted to new Classical vocal music called the Contemporary AmericanaFestival. Each year, the programs for this event highlight new operas, art songs, and choral works. This featured repertoire is chosen through an International Composers' Competition. Spoon River Anthology Project Meets Initial Fundraising Goal
The Spoon River Anthology Project is a multi-disciplinary collaboration between myself, San Francisco based film maker Alexander Winter, and the Swara Sonora Trio. SST will commission me to compose a full-length song cycle based on Edgar Lee Masters' American epic 'Spoon River Anthology'. We raised over $1,600 to kickstart a campaign in support of commission fees and production costs of the project. The Spoon River Anthology Project is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions on behalf of Spoon River Anthology Project may be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
